The benefits of reflexology extend far beyond mere relaxation.

This holistic practice is renowned for its potential to alleviate stress and tension, improve circulation, and enhance overall vitality.

Beyond its physical benefits, reflexology can also have a profound impact on mental and emotional health.

Many individuals report experiencing reduced anxiety and improved mood after a reflexology session. The deep relaxation induced by this practice allows for the release of tension and the restoration of a sense of balance and calm.

Furthermore, reflexology has been recognized for its ability to promote a sense of overall well-being and increased self-awareness. By connecting with the body through the feet, hands, or ears, individuals often gain a heightened sense of body awareness and a deeper understanding of the interplay between physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of their being.

Whether you are seeking relief from specific ailments, aiming to enhance your overall health, or simply looking for a rejuvenating and relaxing experience, reflexology offers a holistic approach to well-being that encompasses both the body and the mind. Its ancient wisdom combined with its modern applications make reflexology a powerful tool for promoting balance, vitality, and harmony in our hectic and fast-paced world.

Duopody

I have been trained in Duopody ™ Reflex which is a technique of reflexology exclusive to Inspria Academy. It means that I work bi manually ( both hands) on both of your feet simultaneously.

I follow the systems of the body to treat you both methodically and anatomically. I have also been trained in other treatment protocols, like traditional Ingham technique and am also trained to use reflexology to support clients with their reproductive health and for those who are receiving palliative care.

Reflexology through the ages

Origins of Reflexology Physiotherapy The Modern Era

Origins of Reflexology

The history of reflexology can be traced back thousands of years, with its origins deeply rooted in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, China, and India.

The concept of reflexology can be found in hieroglyphic drawings on the walls of Egyptian tombs, depicting practitioners working on the feet and hands of their patients. These historical artefacts suggest that reflexology was recognized and practised as a healing art as early as 2500 BCE.

The modern development of reflexology can be attributed to Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and Dr. Edwin Bowers, an osteopath, in the early 20th century. They introduced the concept of zone therapy, proposing that the body could be divided into ten vertical zones, and that applying pressure to specific zones could have therapeutic effects on corresponding areas of the body.

Physiotherapy

Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist, further refined and popularised reflexology in the mid-20th century.

Ingham mapped out the reflex points on the feet and developed a systematic approach to applying pressure to these points. She observed that applying pressure to specific reflex points could not only alleviate pain but also have a positive impact on the corresponding organs and systems of the body. Since then, reflexology has gained recognition and acceptance as a complementary therapy. Professional associations, such as the Association of Reflexology ( AoR) have been established to promote research, education, and training in reflexology.

The Modern Era

Reflexology has continued to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of individuals seeking holistic healing.

It has integrated principles from various disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, and energy medicine. Reflexologists now employ a wide range of techniques, including thumb and finger pressure, massage, and even the use of essential oils. The practice has gained popularity worldwide, with reflexologists working alongside other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic approach to well-being.

Today, reflexology is widely recognized for its ability to reduce stress, enhance relaxation, and support overall wellness. It has become a respected modality in the field of complementary and alternative medicine, offering individuals a natural and non-invasive means of promoting balance, vitality, and optimal health.
